The following ARE themes of Moonrise, and will occasionally feature as part of the game. They will not necessarily feature as part of every game, and if you would have an issue with one of these, please contact the larp organiser to discuss if suitable arrangements can be made. Themes described as major or common themes can be expected to appear in most if not all games, other themes will occur more rarely.
Discrimination on the basis of nationality, religion or faith - One of the main themes of the setting is nationalism, and discrimination based on IC nation is common. The setting also contains themes of religious intolerance, again directed at in character religions which are not related to Out of Character religions and should not be portrayed as such
Discrimination on the basis of fantasy species - Referred to in setting as Genusism some nations have varying levels of prejudice to the various Genera that make up the population of Ardora.
Extreme violence - Violence is a major theme of the game, and will occur in most encounters.
Extreme gore - Rarely phys-repped, but often described. This can include descriptions of the aftermath of violence and war, repercussions of inadvisable magic, and many other sources.
Slavery or human trafficking - While slavery itself is not practised in Falgarias other nearby nations engage in the practice.
Mind Control or other means of removing agency - Effect calls exist which allow people to attempt to force their will upon others. However, as standard effect calls, these may always be resisted by focusing all effort on doing so should a player not wish to allow this.
Torture - Torture is exceptionally rare but not unheard of. Torture scenes may be roleplayed but this is anticipated to be relatively infrequent. As in real life, torture is not an effective way of gaining information.
Consensual sexual activity - This is not a major theme of the game and roleplay should not exceed what is appropriate in a public space. More graphic scenes may be described with the consent of all involved. Please warn for these so that people who feel uncomfortable can step away.
Miscarriage and stillbirth - Whilst this theme is not banned outright, we would expect a GM to have a very good reason to include this and to have run it by the LARPO before running the adventure. This cannot happen to a character without the explicit consent of the player.
Forced abortion - While this theme is uncommon, it may be explored as part of the setting, but only in the context of unnatural entities and unknown horrors and not of natural children. This cannot happen to a character without the explicit consent of the player.
Domestic Abuse - Biological, found and other families are a theme of this game. Within these families as within any power structure abuse may occur. Ideally avoid traditional real-world power imbalances within a domestic setting, eg. a father beating his wife and children to keep them in line is out.
Incest - No nations have been written by the organisers which promote this concept. However, it is permissible to create and roleplay incestuous relationships between consenting characters of a similar age where there is no significant power imbalance.
Cannibalism - The organisers have not written anything which promotes this concept. However, characters may choose to eat the flesh of other sentient beings.
Animal Abuse - Both killing animals in self-defence and hunting them for sport may occur in this setting.
Child Abuse - All players in Moonrise will be adults. Characters may be children and as such may be exposed to whatever themes are present in the adventures they are on. Children may be the victims of indiscriminate violence, but adventures will not focus on child abuse as a major theme. Allusions to child abuse in a character's backstory are permitted but no graphic detail should be given. Characters may be children, but the LARPOs retain the right to veto a character if we feel this theme will not be handled sensitively.
Eugenics - The organisers have not written anything which promites this concept and whilst this theme is not banned outright, we would expect a GM to have a very good reason to include this and to have run it by the LARPO before running the adventure.
Genocide - This is likely to be a theme in Moonrise.
Genocide Denial - This is a theme which may occur as both players and NPCs may lie about their actions and motives.
Eating Disorders - Moonrise features a fantasy affliction which often leads to death through starvation. No real world eating disorders may be portrayed.
Degenerative Diseases - Moonrise may feature fantasy diseases but no real world ones.
